SENSEI STEVE APSEGA, YONDAN

  • Started formally training in the Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito system in 1986
  • Opened first dojo (school) in Whitneyville, Maine in 1990.
  • Promoted to Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) on June 10, 1992.
  • Joined and served the United States Marine Corps from 1994-1998.
  • Corporal (E-4) Security Forces in Rota, Spain for the United States Marine Crops in 1995.
  • Honorably Discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1998. (Airborne Certified)
  • Opened Hermon Branch of Maine Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo in 2000.
  • Promoted to Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) on June 10, 2000.
  • Opened Orrington Branch of Shorin-Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate and Kobudo in 2003.
  • Promoted to Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) on May 22, 2004
  • Traveled to Okinawa, Japan to train with Hanshi Kise and Kaicho Isao Kise on October 6, 2004.
  • Traveled to Okinawa, Japan a second time to train with Hanshi Fusei Kise and Kaicho Isao Kise in October of 2006.
  • Promoted to YONDAN (4th Degree Black black) on May 16, 2009
  • Trains regularly with his teacher Brad Hamel, Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) in
    Ellsworth Maine.
  • Attends and assists his teacher to host annual visits with Hanshi Fusei Kise and Kiacho Isao Kise when coming to the United States. 

 

 

 


SEMPAI LOU KIEFER- SHODAN
 

  

Sempai Louis Kiefer Jr. is a Shodan (1st degree black belt). Louis started training under Sensei Brad Hamel in 2001 and received his Shodan on September 16, 2006. He is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University and Cornell Hotel School. He is currently the executive chef of The Bar Harbor Inn, located in Bar Harbor Maine. Louis currently resides in Ellsworth, Maine with his wife Candice and his interests include organic gardening, hunting, fly fishing, white water kayaking and distance running, Louis Kiefer has completed over 20 marathons and ran The Boston Marathon in 1999. He joined the Orrington Dojo in 2009.


 

 

 


SEMPAI SCOTT DAIGLE

Sempai Scott Daigle is a Shodan, ( 1st Degree Black Belt.)  He began training in Judo at a young age.  He began training under Sensei Apsega in March of 2005.  He was promoted to Shodan in 2009.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business and an Associates Degree in Accounting.  Scott is currently teaching the youth beginner program at the Orrington Dojo.


 

 


SEMPIA DAN VILASUSO

Sempai Dan Vilasuso is a student at the Center Drive School System in Orrington.  He participates in band and chorus music programs.  Hobbies are basketball, football, and soccer.  Plans to attend Brewer High School.  Started training with Sensei Apsega in the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate & Kobudo Federation in September 2004.  He was promoted to Junior Shodan 2009.  He assists other Black Belt teachers in the Orrington Dojo.


 

 

 


SEMPAI AUDREY TREADWELL

 

Sempai Audrey Treadwell is a student at the Center Drive School System in Orrington.  She received high honors.  She started training with Sensei Apsega in the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito Karate & Kobudo Federation in September 2003.  She was promoted to Junior Shodan in 2009.  She assist other Black Belt teachers in the Orrington Dojo.
